Farewell to Chavez

Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías was the President of the Venezuela from 1999 until his death yesterday March 5, 2013.

Chavez was born into a working class family in Sabaneta, Barines. Years later, he joined the military only to find his dissatisfaction with the government, forming the Revolutionary Bolivian Movement-200, an attempt to overthrow the government in the 80's. In 1992  he led the MBR-200 into an unsuccessful coup d'etat against Democratic Action government for which he was imprisoned for.

A couple of years later, he was the leader of Fifth Republic Movement from 1997 until 2007, the year it merged with several other parties which formed into the United Socialist of Venezuela. In 1999 he won his first Presidential election, followed by the years 2001,2007 and 2013.

What did Chavez accomplish during his Presidency?
-lowered the poverty level
-availability of quality health care
-invested in science, technology , and agriculture
-implementing social justice-participation of millions of people in the democratic process
-paid off debt

Why women loved Chavez
         The implemented Constitution
- grants women the right of equal pay for equal work
-  right to a life without violence, according to International Convention against Discrimination against Women
- right to protection and public assistance for during maternity in all its phases
- recognizes women’s domestic work as productive economic activity entitled to public pensions.
- adheres to the International UN Declaration of the Rights of the Child

A couple of years after the constitution's birth, Chavez was kidnapped in a coup by the financial elites and the US. Tens of thousands of people rallied in the street demanding the return of Chavez. Despite the attempts of murder of people and armed forces who aligned with the people, the kidnapping only last 48 hours and Chavez was returned to the Venezuelan people.

Although Chavez isn't communist, his alliance with socilalists leaders such as those in   Cuba, BoliviaEcuador, and Nicaragua only proves his political and personal interests in governing  the Venezuelan people.
